ges%20related%20to%20three%20areas%20of%20protection%20%28AoP%29%3A%20human%20health%2C%20ecosystem%20quality%2C%20and%20natural%20resources.%20However%2C%20LCA%20has%20its%20limitation%20in%20evaluating%20the%20impacts%20on%20the%20product%20system%20especially%20in%20addressing%20the%20AoP%20natural%20resources.%20LCA%20indicators%20measure%20mostly%20mineral%20resource%20depletion.%20Using%20criticality%20assessment%20methods%2C%20such%20as%20the%20GeoPolRisk%20method%2C%20provides%20an%20%5C%22outside-in%5C%22%20perspective%20on%20the%20product%20system.%20It%20takes%20into%20account%20factors%20such%20as%20market%20concentration%20and%20political%20stability%20and%20evaluates%20supply%20risk%20of%20importing%20a%20resource%20and%20vulnerability%20to%20supply%20risk%2C%20thus%20addressing%20socio-economic%20dimensions%20of%20sustainability%20related%20to%20the%20AoP%20natural%20resources.%20While%20criticality%20indicators%20are%20useful%2C%20current%20methods%20focus%20on%20metals%20and%20minerals.%20As%20demand%20for%20natural%20resources%20continues%20to%20increase%2C%20it%20is%20necessary%20to%20broaden%20the%20scope%20of%20criticality%20assessments%20to%20include%20a%20wider%20range%20of%20resources%20such%20as%20fossil%20fuels.%20Furthermore%2C%20most%20criticality%20indicators%20evaluate%20the%20import%20risk%20component%20of%20supply%20risk%20based%20on%20the%20political%20stability%20of%20the%20country%20of%20origin%20of%20natural%20resources.%20While%20political%20stability%20is%20an%20essential%20aspect%20of%20environmental%2C%20social%2C%20and%20governance%20%28ESG%29%20issues%20in%20the%20context%20of%20sustainability%2C%20it%20is%20not%20the%20only%20factor.%20The%20focus%20of%20the%20research%20is%20to%20broaden%20the%20GeoPolRisk%20method%2C%20which%20is%20composed%20of%20composite%20indicators%20with%20intricate%20calculations%20that%20combine%20multiple%20resources%2C%20geography%2C%20and%20temporal%20dimensions.%20Previous%20applications%20of%20the%20GeoPolRisk%20method%20have%20been%20limited%20to%20only%20a%20few%20metals%20and%20to%20specific%20years%20due%20to%20the%20level%20of%20effort%20to%20calculate.%20This%20limitation%20has%20hindered%20the%20full%20operationalization%20of%20the%20method%20for%20practitioners.%20The%20core%20objective%20of%20this%20thesis%20is%20twofold.%20Firstly%2C%20it%20aims%20to%20automate%20the%20intricate%20calculations%20of%20the%20GeoPolRisk%20method.%20Secondly%2C%20it%20seeks%20to%20showcase%20the%20method%27s%20applicability%20by%20applying%20it%20into%20an%20extensive%20LCA%20database%20utilizing%20computational%20and%20artificial%20intelligence%20methodologies.%20Moreover%2C%20the%20research%20aims%20to%20broaden%20the%20temporal%20and%20geographic%20scope%20of%20existing%20life%20cycle%20criticality%20method%20and%20extend%20their%20application%20to%20other%20abiotic%20resources%20beyond%20metals%2C%20while%20also%20integrating%20the%20aspect%20of%20armed%20conflict%20as%20a%20proxy%20to%20measure%20import%20risk.%20The%20thesis%20comprises%20seven%20chapters.%20The%20first%20chapter%20introduces%20the%20research%20question%20and%20objectives%20of%20the%20thesis%2C%20followed%20by%20a%20review%20of%20the%20state%20of%20the%20art%20in%20chapter%202.%20Chapter%203%20presents%20a%20library%20for%20calculating%20the%20GeoPolRisk%20of%20metals%20for%20countries%20with%20an%20integrated%20database%20automation.%20The%20chapter%20illustrates%20the%20supply%20risk%20of%20resources%20used%20for%20manufacturing%20the%20electric%20motor%20for%20electric%20vehicles%20and%20a%20case%20study%20of%20cobalt%20imports%20to%20three%20hypothetical%20companies.%20Chapter%204%20broadens%20the%20scope%20of%20the%20GeoPolRisk%20method%20from%20metals%20to%20fossil%20fuels%20and%20compares%20the%20shift%20in%20supply%20risk%20of%20metals%20used%20in%20batteries%20to%20that%20of%20fossil%20fuels%20over%20eighteen%20years%20%282000%20to%202018%29%20for%20several%20countries.%20Chapter%205%20presents%20a%20methodology%20to%20incorporate%20conflict%20risk%20of%20minerals%20and%20metals%20supply%20into%20LCA%20and%20applies%20it%20to%20mineral%20resource%20imports%20to%20the%20European%20Union%20and%20the%20United%20States.%20In%20chapter%206%20characterization%20factors%20of%20the%20SRP%20indicator%20to%2045%20elementary%20flows%20are%20computed%20and%20applied%20to%20market%20data%20sets%20from%20a%20widespread%20LCA%20database%2C%20comparing%20the%20results%20with%20more%20established%20methods%2C%20that%20are%20the%20abiotic%20depletion%20potential%20%28ADP%29%20and%20average%20dissipation%20rate%20%28ADR%29.%20Finally%2C%20Chapter%207%20provides%20a%20recapitulation%20of%20the%20thesis%2C%20including%20general%20discussions%20and%20specific%20conclusions%2C%20covering%20the%20limitations%20and%20strengths%20of%20the%20research%20done%2C%20and%20considers%20and%20discusses%20additional%20applications%20and%20future%20perspectives.%20Overall%2C%20this%20Ph.D.%20contri
